This Aching World

Poem written 10-6-24. Third in the “Time Is A Monster” series.

1.
Like a muscle,
Pushed too hard,
Burning, exhausted,
Beginning to fray

Like a note,
Pushed too high,
Shrill and trembling,
Growing in disharmony

Like a heart,
Pushed too far,
Pounding and worn,
Ending its race

This world sits,
On the edge,
Between too much,
And never enough

2.
Two trees stood,
Within that Garden,
Two ways to be,
And not to be

But blessed life,
A shining bridge,
Spanned those,
Twin infinities

Above and below,
Betwixt and between,
Life and death,
And all we dare

All brought,
To a boil,
And then,
Left to simmer

3.
But listen up,
Daughter of mine,
Time will come,
And eat you up

Time is a monster,
Chasing us all,
Through eternity,
Like a nightmare

But if these moments,
Confused as they are,
Were taken,
From us

When would I,
Find the time,
In my busy day,
To love you?
