“This, too, shall pass”,
The Mother said to me,
From within a flame,
From a dripping fountain

“This, too, is time”,
Splayed out for me and many,
Endured one moment,
After another, after another

“This, too, is terrifying”,
A glance at one another,
As I hurry past,
Afraid to meet Your eyes

“This too shall pass”,
But I am afraid, Mother,
Of what shall come after,
And after, and after
